KESH OG grime scenester, musician, artist and designer, KESH, on Kanye bust-ups, dream duets with Michael Jackson and why guestlist never stops her buying a ticket...

Last time you laughed so hard you nearly wet yourself?

On FaceTime with Zezi a few days ago. I can’t even remember about what but we stayyyy crackin’ up.

Last time you worked with a UK artist?

I just played with Lancey in New York for his night, Club Blue. It was me, Lancey, Slew and Trezzor, a proper UK in America type vibe. Night was hard.

Last time you were in London?

Alwayssss. Honestly I feel like I come back too much at this point. How am I living in New York but always still on endz? Gotta check for my mum and that you know how it is. I come back like four times a year for work/family and it’s so close to New York it’s perfect.

Last time you paid to go to a gig?

It was for a show by Ms Carrie Stacks. I had list but I bought tickets anyway. For independent and underground shows every ticket counts so I try and buy even if I’m on the guestlist.

Last time you saw Kanye?

Like 2 years ago in Italy. We had a massive argument. Hahahahaha.

Last time you were starstruck?

Honestly, I think it’s when I spent time with Prince. We spent three days together but when I look back on it I was being shy.

Last time you hung out with Samuel L Jackson?

We ain’t linked in time. I think maybe at one of his premieres, but we stay in touch and recently did a KESH x Samuel L Jackson NTS mix for the UN World Food Programme which was sick. It’s on the NTS site for anyone who wants to find it.

Last time you threw up a gunfinger?

I think at the Noise of Cory and Jah$tar show that I just played. First time hearing their stuff live — it slaps.

Last book you read?

I keep re-reading The Prophet by Khalil Gibran — there’s so much magic in there I keep wheelin’ it.

Last time you did something you shouldn’t have?

Like a month ago. I decided to restructure my next single Hearts Desire and I probably shouldn’t have, because now I’m 14 alternate versions deep and, though it’ll produce the best result, it’s actually sending me mad. I’m very dedicated to the small details so it can go on forever sometimes. I gotta wrap it up!

Last time you wished for something?

Lowkey I be wishing for the end of suffering and world peace every day.

Last time you wrote a lyric?

I write lyrics all the time! But this’ll sound crazy and I don’t care but recently Michael Jackson came to me in a dream and gave me a song and it’s called All Things We Share. He gave me the lyrics to the chorus so I’ve been working on the verses. It’s very him. World peace vibes you know.

Last time you performed?

I’ve been chillin’ on shows this year — my head’s been on finishing songs but we’ll be locking in a tour soon.
